Cultivating Clarity: Creating Spiritual C.H.I.

Stressed, anxious, and feeling like you are carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders?

The whole premise of CULTIVATING C.H.I. came from a desire to live a more heart-centered life.  An understanding that we are beings of INTEGRITY, meaning whole and not segmented.  To live a healthy whole life we must nurture not only our physical bodies, but also our relationships, our career choices, and our SPIRITUAL beings.  CULTIVATING C.H.I. is not based on quick fixes but rather taking small sustainable steps to create alignment, balance, and values to live by.  Nowhere does this concept resonate with me more than in the area of SPIRITUALITY.

Some of my earliest memories are of my dad talking to me about life on earth vs. eternity.  He explained to me that everything in this life on earth is temporary.  Things of the Spirit are eternal.

“We are not human beings having a spiritual experience.  We are spiritual beings having a human experience.”

-Teilhard Chardin

What is the definition of temporary?

The definition of temporary is lasting for only a limited period of time; not permanent.

What is the definition of eternal?

The definition of eternal is existing forever; without end or beginning; everlasting.

Dad helped me to begin to form CLARITY around the importance of nurturing my SPIRITUAL health.

Life is hard.  There is so much that is beyond our comprehension.  We need SPIRITUAL guidance and wisdom to help us through life’s daily challenges.  Without it, we can feel overwhelmed, depressed, and anxious resulting in physical, emotional, and SPIRITUAL illness.

We tend to believe that we can control all aspects of our lives until we are faced with things such as illness, loss of a job, breakdown of a relationship, or death and then we feel powerless.

Understanding that we are human and need the guidance of our Creator is pivotal to our SPIRITUAL well-being.

” Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

 -Proverbs 3:5-6

Greatest CLARITY is often found during our most challenging times.   Brokenness brings about humbleness and humbleness brings about asking for guidance.  The way we ask for SPIRITUAL guidance is through the practice of PRAYER.

“Prayer is the link that connects us with God.”

-A.B. Simpson

“Prayer is the world’s greatest wireless connection.”

PRAYER has been a steadfast practice throughout my life but never more so than when my husband and I were faced with infertility.  Years of medications, injections, procedures, disappointments, tears, fear, and loss literally brought me to my knees.  I remember the moment that I began to PRAY on my knees.  This brought me to a place of humility, obedience, and gratitude.  When I began to PRAY that God’s will be done rather than my own was a huge moment of CLARITY for me that was life changing.  I felt peace, gratitude, love, and acceptance.  I truly knew that God had my highest interest at heart and that His understanding was so much more than mine could ever be.

Why should we PRAY?

  1. To share our burdens.

“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.

-Matthew 11:28

  1. To ask for guidance.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

-Psalm 119:105

“But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”

-James 1:5

  1. To express gratitude.

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.”

-Psalm 136:1

“Giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

-Ephesians 5:20

  1. To petition desires.

“And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.”

-I John 5:14

  1. To request deliverance from fearful situations.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

-Philippians 4: 6-7

“I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”

-Philippians 4:13

  1. To petition on behalf of others.

“Praying for others is a privilege, and a responsibility.”

  1. To ask for patience.

“But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.”

-James 1:4

PRAYER, study, meditation, time in nature, breath, and gratitude are all paths to reconnecting with our SPIRIT.

spiritual words

  1. Begin each morning with PRAYER.  Set your intentions.  Ask for guidance in all things.

  1. End each day with a PRAYER. What went right?  What went wrong?  Share the day and ask for continued guidance in areas that are troubling you.  This will bring calm and peace resulting in more restful sleep.

  2. Express gratitude daily. Reflecting on blessings creates space for more goodness to come into our lives.

  1. Study the scriptures. PRAYER is our way of talking to God. The scriptures are His way of talking to us.  To understand His will for us we must read His Word.

  1. Meditate. Quiet the mind.  Allow the mind to rest facilitating deeper understanding and peace.

  1. Take a walk in nature. See the beauty of creation.  Smell the air.  Feel the sunshine.  Recognize and celebrate these gifts from God.

  1. Breathe. Oxygen is life.  Take it in with intention.  Breathe in “Let”; breathe out “Go”.

What SPIRITUAL Clarity will these practices help us to gain?

  1.  That this world and its challenges are temporary.

  1.  God always has our back.

  1.  God desires our highest good.

  1.  God’s truth can’t be watered down.

  1.  We must live in truth and be unafraid to name it.

  1.  Wealth and fame are temporary.

  1.  Light always wins over darkness.

  1.  We always have a choice.

  1. Forgiveness is the greatest gift of all.

10. Love is everything.

How can we utilize strategies to align our thoughts, words, and actions to Create SPIRITUAL C.H.I.?

Thought:  I am so fearful of losing my job.

Feeling:   I am feeling anxious and unable to sleep due to ruminating thoughts about possibly losing my job.  I am going to get curious and explore ways to reduce my anxiety and improve my sleep.

Behavior:  I am feeling anxious and unable to sleep because I am relying on myself to deal with my fears surrounding possibly losing my job.  I will PRAY for my highest good and express gratitude each morning.  I will breathe deeply and meditate to quiet my ruminating thoughts.  I will walk in nature and observe the love, generosity, and power of my Creator.  I will close each day with a PRAYER of gratitude of all that went right throughout the day.

What are the consequences of neglecting our SPIRITUAL health?

Neglecting to CULTIVATE SPIRITUAL C.H.I. may result in feelings of helplessness, anxiety, and depression resulting in physical, emotional, and SPIRITUAL illness.  We cannot achieve true wellness by addressing only the physical.  We must maintain our INTEGRITY by prioritizing our SPIRITUAL health.

What are the rewards of prioritizing our SPIRITUAL health?

Incorporating the practices of PRAYER, gratitude, studying the Word, meditation, observing nature, and breathing will result in a deeper connection to our Creator which will in turn help us to reduce our anxiety regarding things we cannot control.  Knowing that God has our best interest at heart in all things results in a more peaceful, joyful, calm, healthy mind, body, and SPIRIT.

  1. Barb, you are inspirational. You lift me up. Thank you for the wisdom you are willing to share for a happier, peaceful, healthier daily walk.

  2. Thank you for these amazing and insightful thoughts and words. My world is crazy right now not in a bad way, just in a crowded, demanding, and busy way. Your inspiration to breathe and remember the spiritual side of each day will help me through the next few stressful days.

  3. Thank you for sharing with us your experience with infertility. I know that was not easy and so many can relate. I think back to my own experience losing my first baby at eight months pregnant and enduring two miscarriages after that. At the time, it happened that the majority of my friends were also pregnant. We had started out celebrating that all our children would grow up around the same age and when I lost mine I felt so alone. I was in such a deep depression. Prayer is such a good way to help get through the valleys of life. When combined with gratitude, it’s powerfully healing. Thank you for the wise words!

  4. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and beautifully written words! As always, you are an inspiration, and such a kind hearted friend. Namaste Sister!

  5. What an incredible reminder. My prayer life was lacking dedicated time to spend with God and my whole life suffered. Dedicating time to him and in his word makes a world of difference.

    1. Thank you for stopping by Laura! C.H.I. is an acronym for Congruency, Harmony, and Integrity. It is aligning our thoughts, words, and actions to bring about physical, spiritual, and emotional health. When we are out of alignment with our Integrity we experience problems with illness, depression, anxiety, and so forth. Cultivating our spirituality through prayer helps bring us into alignment.
